LESSON 1: VEHICLE OVERVIEW
The liquid cooling system consists of:
– an Explorer radiator.
– a two-speed electric cooling fan.
– a 12-volt electric coolant pump.
– rubber coolant hoses.
– metal coolant tubes.
– a 50/50 mix of water and glycol Ford specification WSS-
M97B44-C. (Do not mix with previous specification.)
The 12-volt coolant pump incorporates a:
– centrifugal impeller design.
– 12-volt DC motor.
– magnetic motor-to-impeller clutch.
NOTE: Adding coolant is not a standard maintenance item. Do not
mix the new glycol with the previous specification. Change coolant at
100,000 miles or 5 years whichever comes first.
