DOS
DOS is an acronym for Disk Operating System. DOS is the foundation on which all other programs
and software applications operate, including Windows. DOS is responsible for allocating system re-
sources such as memory, CPU time, disk space, and access to peripheral devices. For this reason, DOS
constitutes the basic interface between you and your computer.
Hardware
Hardware is a general term referring to the physical components of a computer system, including
peripherals such as printers, modems, and pointing devices.
IDE Drives
IDE is an acronym for Integrated Drive Electronics. IDE drives integrate the drive control circuitry
directly on the drive itself, eliminating the need for a separate adapter card. The All-In -One PC is
equipped with an IDE hard drive.
Joystick
The Joystick is a specially designed pointing device that affords greater manipulation of the cursor.
Most computer games are programmed with support for a Joystick.
LPT Port
LPT, an abbreviation for line printer, is a logical device name reserved by DOS for the computer
parallel ports. The Notebook has one physical parallel port, but this port can be reserved as one of three
LPT port assignments by the operating system: LPT1, LPT2, or LPT3. Each LPT port is configured to
use a different IRQ and address assignment.
MIDI Interface
MIDI is an acronym for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. The Notebook MIDI port conforms to
serial interface standards defined by the International MIDI Association. The MIDI port allows you to
