LM78 System Monitor
5/4
LS HANDBOOK
The motherboard has an on board monitoring system provided by
an LM78 device.
The LM78 provides the system monitor functions as described
2
below. An I
C link to an external (optional) management card
allows access to the monitors even after a motherboard failure so
long as the system 5V standby rail remains available, i.e the AC
power cord is still connected even when the system is in "Off"
mode.
The following functions are provided by the LM78:
Monitoring of system fans
Monitoring of system voltages; +12V, +5V, +3.3V, processor,
+1.5V, -5V and -12V rails
Monitoring of system temperature (i.e. the motherboard
surface temperature)
Monitoring of chassis intrusion (cover removal)
With the installation of a server management card these functions
can be accessed and checked via a suitably set up workstation on the
network by an authorised user or supervisor.
The system's operation and integrity can be monitored even with
the system in "Off" mode. The system can also be remotely reset.
