The sound from the connected source is
distorted.
• If "VIDEO" appears in the display when you
touch VIDEO/SAT on the unit, switch the display
to "SAT" (see "Listening to audio from a
connected component" on page 80).
Speakers
Sound comes from one channel or
unbalanced left and right volume.
• Check the speaker connection and speaker
placement.
• The source being played back is monaural.
The sound comes from the center speaker
only (DHC-AZ7DM only).
• Depending on the disc, the sound may come from
the center speaker only.
There is no sound from the subwoofer
(DHC-AZ7DM only).
• Make sure that the "SUBWOOFER" setting is set
to "YES".
• No sound is produced from the subwoofer when
you play a DVD that does not have subwoofer
output recorded.
There is no sound from the center speaker
(DHC-AZ7DM only).
• Set the center speaker level to the appropriate
level.
There is no sound from the surround speakers
(DHC-AZ7DM only).
• Set the surround speakers level to the appropriate
level.
• The software being played back has limited sound
effects. Check the volume with the test tone.
Sound lacks bass.
• Check that the speaker's + and – jacks are
connected correctly.
USB storage media
"Push Power" and "Remove Mem" appear
alternately.
• A problem has been detected with the level of
electrical current from the USB MEMORY port.
Turn off the system and remove the USB storage
media from the USB MEMORY port. Make sure
there is no problem with the USB storage media.
If this display pattern persists, contact your
nearest Sony dealer.
There is no sound.
• The USB storage media is not inserted correctly.
Turn off the system, then reinsert the USB storage
media and check if "USB CONNECT" is
displayed.
The sound is distorted.
• The bit rate used when encoding the MP3 files
was low. Send MP3 files encoded with higher bit
rates to the USB storage media.
There is noise or the sound skips.
• Turn off the system, then reinsert the USB storage
media.
• The music data itself contains noise. Noise may
have been introduced when creating music data
due to the conditions of the computer. Create the
music data again.
• Copy the files to your computer, format the USB
storage media in FAT12, 16, or 32 format, and
copy the files to the USB storage media again.*
The USB storage media cannot be inserted
into the USB MEMORY port.
• The USB storage media is being inserted
backwards. Insert the USB storage media in the
correct orientation.
The USB storage media which has been used
on another device does not work.
• It may be recorded in an unsupported format. If so,
first take the precaution of backing up important
files on the USB storage media by copying them
to your computer hard disk. Next, format the USB
storage media with a FAT12, FAT16, or FAT32
file system and transfer the backed-up audio files
onto the USB storage media again.*
"Reading" is displayed for a long time.
• It may take a while to finish reading the USB
storage media if there are many albums or tracks
on it. Thus, we recommend following these
guidelines.
– Total albums on USB storage media: 100 or less
– Total tracks per album: 100 or less
Erroneous display
• Send the music data to the USB storage media
again, as the data stored in the USB storage media
may have been corrupted.
• The character codes that can be displayed by this
system are numbers and alphabet only. Other
characters are not displayed correctly.
