FREQUENCY REFERENCE
Int Ext
Options menu 3 allows to select between internal or external
reference frequency [Ref]. [Disp] is used to define the resolution
of the frequency display.
Reference frequency [Ref]
In the standard execution the HM 8131-2 contains a stable crystal
oscillator. As an option the HO86 TCXO can be ordered which
features an accuracy of 5x10
installed or installed by the HAMEG service.
If a still higher accuracy is needed the internal oscillator can be
disabled and replaced by an external one which has to be connected
to the rear panel terminal [10 MHz IN/OUT]
reference must comply with the respective HM 8131-2 specifications
.
Selection of the reference frequency source
Go to the menu „OPTIONS MENU 3", item [Ref] and select either
[Int] or [Ext]. This will be displayed each time the instrument is
STOP
turned on.
[Out] will cause the internal 10 MHz reference to be
switched onto the terminal 10 MHz IN/OUT [19].
TiPP
If the frequency of the external source should be
outside the specified limits an error message will be
displayed. The instrument must then be returned to internal
reference operation, otherwise the frequencies from the
generator will not be correct.
STOP
Resolution of the frequency display [Disp]
[Disp] will call the menu "FREQUENCY DIGITS" which allows to
select the resolution of the display between 5 and 12 digits using

the pushbutton array
.
