Factors that affect the pumps ability to prime:
1. Pump Location
a) The further the pump is from the tank the harder it is for the pump to prime, it may take extra time to remove air
out of the suction line and/or cause air pockets in the suction line.
b) The higher the pump is from the tank water level, the harder it is for the pump to prime as it needs to lift the
water up to the pump.
2. Air Leaks -
a) If there are any air leaks in the plumbing (suction and discharge) it will be more difficult to prime.
b) If the pump lid and O-Ring are not installed correctly or if they have cracks or are worn, it will be harder to regain
the prime.
3. Tank Water Level - If the water level is low in the tank, the pump will not be able to prime correctly.
Factors that may cause the pump to loose it's prime:
Check your setup
a) Is their sufficient water in the water tank to fully submerge the tank outlet?
b) Are suction and discharge lines as straight as possible?
c) Is the gateway valve in the open position?
d) Has the pre-filter with non-return valve been fitted correctly?
e) Is the pump pre-filter lid on tight and is the O-Ring installed and lubricated?
f) Are there any breaks or leaks on the suction plumbing, has Teflon tape been used on the threads?
g) Are there signs of small water leaks in the inlet or discharge plumbing?
Connections to Pump
Keep suction and discharge lines as straight as possible to minimize friction losses. Make minimum use of elbows and
fittings, which substantially increase friction loss. If elbows are necessary, use the long-radius type to minimize
friction loss.
Suction lines
To avoid air pockets which could affect pump priming, the suction line must be as short and direct as possible. When
operation involves a suction lift, the line must always slope upward to the pump from the source of the liquid being
pumped; if the line slopes down to the pump at any point along the suction run, air pockets will be created.
