6.6 Degradation Function

6.6 Degradation Function
The degradation function disconnects (degradation) a faulty component when there is a hardware failure. To
continue operation, it configures the system with the remaining hardware resources. The system is always
restarted when using the degradation function.
System operation can be resumed immediately without a prolonged system failure because the system is
started with the faulty component disconnected.
- Immediate degradation
Refers to degradation without system reset or restart.
- Degradation reservation
Degradation reservation schedules the degradation of a certain hardware resource at the next system
startup or the next partition startup with the MMB firmware. The MMB automatically disconnects the
hardware which will most likely fail at the next boot.
