MAINTENANCE & ADJUSTMENTS
Valve Clearance
Adjust the valves at the recommended interval.
Valve clearance inspection and adjustment must be done
with the engine cold.
1.
Remove the valve covers.

2. Install a 6x8 mm bolt in the
threaded hole of each rocker
shaft to hold the shaft in
position. (The shaft can fall
out when the piston is at
firing position. One of the
6x26 mm valve cover bolts
may be used to keep the
shaft from falling out, but it
will not keep the shaft in
position.)
3. Remove the recoil starter.
4. Rotate the flywheel to align
the '7" mark on the fan with
the '7" mark on the right side
of the fan housing. This is top
dead center for number 1
cylinder. If the piston is in
firing position, both rocker
arms will be free and the
rocker shaft will be a slip fit in
its bore. If not, rotate the
flywheel another 360".
