Connecting Using the Optional RS-232
Serial Expansion Module
IMPORTANT
This option isn't available for Dual Touch SMART Board SBD600 series
interactive whiteboards.
The optional RS-232 serial expansion module provides an alternative method of
connecting your interactive whiteboard to your computer if a USB connection isn't
available. This module also uses its own external power supply to provide power
to your interactive whiteboard.
Use a standard straight-through DB9 male-to-female RS-232 cable to connect
the RS-232 serial expansion module to your computer.
1. If you haven't already installed SMART product drivers, insert the included
SMART product drivers CD in your computer's CD drive to launch the software
installation screen, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
The SMART product drivers setup program should start automatically. If it doesn't
start automatically, select Start > Run, and then type x:\autorun.exe, where x: is
your CD drive.
NOTE
When you're asked to add the SMART Board icon to your Startup Folder,
choose Yes so that SMART Board Tools will always be open, and your
interactive whiteboard will be fully functional without any further action.
2. If necessary, follow the included installation instructions to install the RS-232
serial expansion module on your interactive whiteboard.
3. Connect the DB9M plug of the included
male-to-female serial cable (or a suitable
substitute) into the 9-pin socket on the
side of the RS-232 module, located
behind your interactive whiteboard's
lower-right corner.
