Ports

The Embedded Switch Module supports the following port types:
Optical ports
For optical ports, SFP fiber optic transceivers that convert electrical signals to optical signals, and
optical signals to electrical signals, are used. Each SFP transceiver is capable of transmitting at
1.0625, 2.125, 4.25, or 8.5 Gbps speeds.
Copper ports
For internal copper ports, connection occurs by way of SerDes 4-wire signaling through the
backplane to the server bays. The internal ports are capable of transmitting at 1.0625, 2.125,
4.25, or 8.5 Gbps speeds. The internal port speed is auto-generated to the highest speed
supported by the chassis. There is one server per switch port that interfaces to the blade server
chassis switch.
