    Procedure CAUTION! The activities described in this manual should only be performed by engineers, service personnel or technical specialists. Ê First of all please familiarize yourself with the safety instructions in the chapter “Important notes” on page 11ff. Ê Make sure that all the manuals you need (see service DVD) are available, printing out the PDF files if necessary.

    Safety notes The following safety notes are also provided in the “Safety notes and other important information” manual. This device complies with the relevant safety regulations for data processing equipment. CAUTION! The actions described in these instructions should only be performed by service personnel.
  • Page 12 Safety notes CAUTION! For safety reasons, no more than one unit should be pulled out of the rack at a time. Make sure that the anti-tilt plate is correctly mounted when you set up the rack. The rack may tip over if more than one unit is removed at the same time.
  • Page 13 Safety notes CAUTION! The ON/OFF button does not disconnect the device from the mains voltage. To disconnect the line voltage completely, remove all power plugs from the grounded insulated sockets. Always connect the device and the attached peripherals to the same power circuit.
  • Page 14 Safety notes CAUTION! Only install system expansions that satisfy the requirements and rules governing safety and electromagnetic compatibility and relating to telecommunications terminal equipment. If you install other expan- sions, you may damage the system or violate the safety regulations and regulations governing RFI suppression.
  • Page 15 Safety notes Batteries CAUTION! Incorrect replacement of batteries may lead to a risk of explosion. The batteries may only be replaced with identical batteries or with a type recommended by the manufacturer (see the Technical Manual for the system board). Do not throw batteries into the trash can.

Use only medias in proper condition in the optical disk drive of your server to prevent data loss, damage to the device and injuries. Therefore, check each medium for damage, cracks, breakage etc. before inserting it in the drive.

    Removing the system unit from the rack cabinet CAUTION! For safety reasons, at least three people are required to install/remove the PRIMERGY BX900 S1 system unit because of its weight and size. Before removing the system unit from the rack, the server blades, storage blades, connection blades, power supply units and fan modules must be removed to reduce the weight of the system unit.

The midplane is attached to the rear chassis. The rear chassis is inserted in the rear of the system unit as an inner housing.
