Installing/Removing
Headstock Center
Make sure the headstock and tailstock cen-
ters are properly aligned before beginning
any turning operation. See Aligning Centers
on Page 38 for additional instructions on
this procedure. Failure to observe this warn-
ing could result in the workpiece being
thrown from the lathe resulting in serious
personal injury.
The included spur center installs into the head-
stock spindle with an MT#2 tapered fit.
To install the headstock center:
1.
DISCONNECT THE LATHE FROM THE
POWER SOURCE!
2.
If the faceplate is installed on the spindle,
remove it (see Page 23 for detailed instruc-
tions).
3.
Make sure the mating surfaces of the center
and spindle are free of debris and oily sub-
stances before inserting the center.
4.
Insert the tapered end of the center into
the spindle, and push it in with a quick, firm
motion (see Figure 22).

5.
Make sure the center is securely installed by
attempting to pull it out by hand—a properly
installed center will not pull easily.
To remove the headstock center with the
knockout tool:
1.
DISCONNECT THE LATHE FROM THE
POWER SOURCE!
2.
Hold a clean rag under the spindle or wear a
glove to catch the center when you remove
it.
3.
Insert the knockout tool through the outbound
end of the spindle and firmly tap the center,
