Spindle Turning

Spindle Turning
Spindle turning is the operation performed when
a workpiece is mounted between the headstock
and the tailstock (see Figure 39).

Make sure the headstock and tailstock cen-
ters are properly aligned before beginning
any turning operation. See Aligning Centers
on Page 38 for additional instructions on
this procedure. Failure to observe this warn-
ing could result in the workpiece being
thrown from the lathe resulting in serious
personal injury.
G0632 16" x 42" Variable Speed Wood Lathe
To set up a spindle turning operation:
1.
Find the center point of both ends of your
workpiece by drawing diagonal lines from cor-
ner to corner across the end of the workpiece
(see Figure 40).

2.
Using a wood mallet, tap the point of the spur
center into the center of the workpiece on
both ends, leaving an indented center mark.

Using a

be mounted on the headstock spur center.
