I0- Grill Igniter System
The IgniterSystemconsistsof a gas collector,
electrode,wireandigniter (sideburners include a
secondelectrodewithwire). Gas accumulatingin
the gas collectoris ignitedby an electric spark
generatedwhenthe igniterunit is activated. The
sparkgap is automatically set when the electrode
is installed. Theigniterwireshouldbe kept a
minimumof 3" belowthe grill bottomsothatthe
heat won'tdamagethe wire.
TestingThe IgniterSystem:
Be surecontrol knobvalve(s) are off and proceed
asfollows:
1. Usinga handmirror,watch the e_eCtrode tip
insidethe gas collectorwhilepressingthe
igniter.Toavoid a possibleshock, Do Nottouch
the burneror metalpartson ignitorsystem
while performingignitertest. A visible spark
shouldjumpfrom the electrode.Seethe
representative illustrationin Fig. 22.
2. If there isn't a spark, checkthe wire
connectionsandsee that the electrodeisn't
broken. It is normalfor the wire to fit loosely
inside the porcelain.
3. Dirtand ruston the burner or ignitercan
preventthe igniterspark. Clean themwith a
de-greaser or warmsoapywater and dry.
