This chapter describes how to view the current operating status of the
Switch, how to display information in the Switch log, and how to take
advantage of the RMON capabilities available in the Switch.
Viewing statistics on a regular basis allows you to:
Monitor how well your network is performing
Monitor emerging trends and notice problems arising before they
cause major network faults
The status monitoring facility provides information about the Switch.
This information may be useful for your technical support
representative if you have a problem.
Table 9-1 describes the monitoring commands available on the Switch.
Description
Displays the account names, access level, number of successful
and failed logon attempts, and the number of active sessions
in the user database. This command is available only to admin
level users.
Displays the current Switch configuration to the terminal. You
can then capture the output and store it as a file.
Displays the forwarding database contents including MAC
address, associated VLAN, port, age of entry configuration
method, and status. Providing one of the options acts as a
filter on the display. Providing a VLAN name displays all entries
for the VLAN. Use the MAC address to locate a specific entry
