Towing eye, front
· Unlock the steering wheel lock so that the
car can be steered.
· Keep in mind the highest permitted legal
towing speed.
· Remember that the brake and power
steering servos do not function when the
engine is switched off! You must exert
approximately five times more pressure on
the brake pedal and steering is considerably
harder than usual.
· Drive gently. Keep the towline taut to avoid
unnecessary jerking.

Towing eye, rear
For automatic gearboxes
· The gear selector should be in position N.
·
Maximum permitted speed for cars with an
automatic gearbox: 80 km/h (50 mph).
Maximum permitted distance: 80 km
(50 miles).
· Cars equipped with an automatic gearbox
must only be towed face forward.
· The engine cannot be towed to start (bump
started). See "Jumpstarting" on the next page.
If you bump start (tow start) a car with manual
gearbox, the catalytic converter may be
damaged. Cars with automatic gearbox cannot
be bump started (tow started). Use a booster
battery if the battery is flat.
The towing eye is located in the tool kit in the
cargo compartment. You must screw the towing
eye into place before towing. The sockets and
covers for the towing eye are located on the
right-hand side of each bumper.
Remove the cover as follows:

A. Loosen the bottom edge of the cover with a
coin.
B. Screw the towing eye securely into place up
to the flange (C). You can use a wheelbrace.
After use, unscrew the towing eye and refit the
cover.
NOTE! The towing eye may only be used for
towing on the road, not for salvage after driving
into a ditch or similar. Professional help should
be called for salvage towing.
