Enterprise+ installations
Where simplified local access (as well as global
access) is required, an Enterprise+ installation is worth
consideration. This method of control combines
aspects of both the cascade and standard enterprise
methods of connections. The key differences are that
AdderView CATxIP 5000 units are used throughout
and each lower tier unit is cascaded to the top level
AdderView CATxIP 5000.
With ADDER.NET providing the necessary
coordination, this method of linking ensures that a
single local user (as well as any global user) has access
to any host system. The route from user to host
differs depending on whether you're local or global:
• A global user connection is made via the IP
network, directly to the appropriate AdderView
CATxIP 5000 unit and then to the specified host.
• The single local user connection is routed from
the top tier unit, via the cascade links, to the
selected host.
Up to sixteen AdderView CATxIP 5000 units can be
connected to a top tier unit using CAMs which link
into the local console connections of each lower
unit. Four global users are supported per AdderView
CATxIP 5000 unit - a theoretical maximum of 68
global users with access to 256 host computers.
This method has the great advantage over standard
cascades in that it is non-blocking, i.e. multiple global
users can simultaneously access hosts attached to the
same AdderView CATxIP 5000 unit.
Cascaded hosts are automatically added to, and
deleted from the Select Host list of the top unit.
These are then shown when viewed by the local
user connected to the top unit, but are not available
to global users if the top unit Select Host menu is
accessed via VNC Viewer. This reflects the different
ways that local and remote users are linked to hosts:
Local user via cascade, global users via the IP network.
Global users must make direct IP connections to units,
usually under the guidance of ADDER.NET.
Note: The AdderView CATxIP 5000 must be running firmware version 1.14 or later, the CAM modules must be running firmware version 2.0 or later.
