Network Configuration (IPv6)

This page allows you to configure network
details that are mainly related to the use of
IPv6
the protocol.
To get here
1 From a local keyboard, log on as the
'admin' user.
2 Press (hotkeys can change).
3 Press to show the Main Menu.
4 Select 'Configuration' and press
5 Select 'Network Configuration' & press
6 Change 'View Protocol' option to 'IPV6'.
MAC Address
Media Access Control address – this is the unique and unchangeable code that
was hard coded within your AdderView CATxIP 5000 unit when it was built.
It consists of six 2-digit hexadecimal (base 16) numbers separated by colons. A
section of the MAC address identifies the manufacturer, while the remainder is
effectively the unique electronic serial number of your particular unit.
View Protocol
Allows you to change between options for IPv4 and IPv6. See the
page for details about IPv4 options.
Enable IPV6
Change this option to Yes only if the AdderView CATxIP 5000 unit is connected
to an IPV6 compliant network.
Use DHCPV6
When this option is set to Yes, the AdderView CATxIP 5000 will attempt to
locate a DHCPv6 server on the network to derive a unique IPv6 address for
itself as well as an address for the IPv6 Gateway. These are not usually granted
permanently, but on a 'lease' basis for a fixed amount of time or for as long
as the AdderView CATxIP 5000 remains connected and switched on.

If this option is set to No, the AdderView CATxIP 5000 will use the
Address Auto Configuration protocol to determine its own IPv6 address. This
will be shown in the IPV6 Address field and can be edited if necessary.

IPV6 Address
Allows you to select an address from a list of configured IPv6 addresses.
Add
Adds the selected IPv6 address to the IPV6 Address section.
Rem
Deletes the selected IPv6 address.
IPV6 Address
This section shows the current IPv6 address for the AdderView CATxIP 5000.
This can be derived either from a DHCPv6 server (if that option is selected); from
the use of the Stateless Address Auto Configuration
address or by manual entry of an IPv6 address.
IPV6 Gateway
Allows the IPv6 Gateway address to be edited.
VNC Port
This is the logical link through which communications with a remote VNC viewer
will be channelled (see What is a port?). The default setting is 5900 which is
a widely recognised port number for use by VNC software. However, in certain
circumstances it may be advantageous to alter this number - see
with ports for more details.
Note: The VNC port and HTTP port can be set to the same port number in order
to simplify router and firewall configuration. If this is done then the AdderView
CATxIP 5000 will "listen" for both types of traffic on the single port.
HTTP Port
This is the logical link through which communications with a remote web
browser will be channelled. The default setting of 80 is an established standard
for web (HTTP – HyperText Transfer Protocol) traffic though this can be changed
to suit your local network requirements.
Clear IP Access Control
This option removes all entries from the IP access control feature within the
AdderView CATxIP 5000. The IP access control feature (configurable by a global
admin user) allows certain network address ranges to be denied access to the
AdderView CATxIP 5000. If set incorrectly, it is possible to exclude all network
users and so this option provides an emergency recovery point.
