Paramagnetic O2 Purity Analyzer
As mentioned in Chapter 2, the paramagnetic sensor used in this
instrument is sensitive to the vent pressure (usually atmospheric). The
initial sensor calibration is done at the factory during production testing
however, if the users installation sample vent pressure is significantly
different from that of our factory, the sensor will need to be recalibrated to
ensure that it is operating in it's linear range.
To determine if the sensor needs to be calibrated, the analyzer must
be operated on 100% O
hours. Select System with front panel controls on the Control Unit. Select
More with the soft key. The sensor output will be displayed on the
alphanumeric display. The sensor output should be between 0.98 –1.02
VDC. If not, perform the sensor initial calibration procedure.
For this procedure use a zero gas of 95% oxygen and span gas of
100% oxygen. An appropriate sample system must be installed as
outlined above. The flow rate should be set to 500 SCCM or to the users
operating flow rate (within 300- 1000 SCCM range). Both the zero gas
(95% O
balance N
) and the span gas (100% O

To perform the initial calibration:
1. Assuming that the instrument is installed properly and gas line
connections including sample-in, zero and span (although only
zero and span gas will be used in this procedure) have been
made and leak-checked, turn the system on by plugging the
power cord into an appropriate power outlet. It is important
that the sample vent from the Analysis Unit is connected at the
location that it will be used in and that the pressure vent line is
connected between the Analysis Unit and The Control Unit.
2. Allow the Model 3010MA to stabilize for a minimum of 24
hours. This is required for the sensor and the oven in the
Analysis Unit to equilibrate at the operating temperature. The
temperature controller in the Control Unit has been set to 40 C.
You may verify this by opening the Control Unit front panel
and looking at the controller display. Both the actual
temperature and the setpoint are displayed.
3. During the last hour of stabilization, introduce span gas (100%
O
) by opening the appropriate valve and adjust the flow rate to
2
500 SCCM. (The flow rate should be set to 500 SCCM or to
the users operating flow rate (within 300-1000 SCCM range).
4. After the stabilization period has expired, select press
