TURNING ONTHECAMERA
Slide the main switch to the on position to turn on the
camera. The access lamp glows briefly to indicate the
power is on. When the camera is initially turned on, the
date and time should be set, see page 26. When not in
use, turn the camera off to conserve power.

Each time the camera is turned on, it automatically
focuses the lens to the infinity position, even in manual
focus. This operation is necessary to ensure proper
. exposures.
Access lamp
AC ADAPTER AC-11 (SOLD SEPARATELY)
The AC Adapter AC-11 allows the camera to be powered from an electrical
household
outlet. The
AC Adapter is recommended
when the camera is interfaced with a computer or during periods of
heavy use.
Always turn off the camera and confirm the
access lamp is not lit before changing
between
power supplies.
Open the DC terminal cover from the left. The cover is
attached to the body to prevent loss.
Insert the mini plug of the AC adapter into the DC
terminal.
Insert the AC adapter plug into an electrical
outlet.
BATTERY CONDiTiON iNDiCATOR
This camera is equipped with an automatic
battery-condition
indicator.
When the camera is on, the indicator appears on the monitor. The
indicator
changes from white to red when battery power is low. Not all
camera functions
are available if battery power is low. If the monitor is
blank, the battery may be exhausted.

is very low. Recharge
the battery.
When power falls below the level of the low-battery
warning, the battery exhausted
message
appears just before the camera shuts down. The camera will not function until the battery is
recharged.
AUTOPOWER SAVE
To conserve battery power, the camera shuts down if an operation
is not made within three minutes.
To restore power, press the shutter-release
button partway down. The length of the auto-power-save
period can be changed in section 3 of the setup menu (p. 105).
The LCD monitor backlight
turns off after five seconds. Press a camera button to restore the
display. The length of this period can be changed in section 3 of the setup menu (p. 105).
