iNSTALLiNG THE WATER LiNE (oNSOME
MODELS)
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Recommended copper _ater supply kits are _X8X2, Y\N8X3
or "v\TK8X4, depending on the amount of albing you need.
Approxed plastic _tmr supply lines are GE SmartConnec/_'
Refrigerator Tubing (_\X08X10006, _X08X10015 and
_X08X10025).

Follow these instructions

to minimize the risk of expensixe ,xamr damage.
_hter hammer (,_ater banging in the pipes) in house plumbing
can cause damage to refrigerator parts and lead to ,xamr leakage
or flooding. Call a qualified plmnber to correct ,xamr hammer
befbre installing the _vtmrsupply line to the refrigerator.
To prexent burns and product damage, do not hook up the
_x_tterline to the hot _x_tterline.
If you use your refrigerator be%re connecting the ,_ater line,
make sure the f}eeleram_ is in the STOP (up) position.
Do not install the icemaker robing in areas ,d_ere temperatures
f_tllbelow fieezing.

in a manner

All installations must be in accordance wi/h local phnnbing
code requh_ments.
WHAT YOU WiLL NEED
• Copper or GE SmartConnect" Refrigerator Tubing kit

1/4 outer diameter to connect the refiJgemtor to the water
supply. If using coppe,; be sure both ends of the robing are
cut square.
To demm_ine how much/ubing
you need: Measure the distance
fiom the _amr _ah_ on the back of/he
refrigerator
to the _tmr
supply pipe. Then add 8' (2.4 m). Be sure there is sufficient extra
robing (about 8' [2.4 m] coiled into 3 rams of about 10" [25 cm]
diamemr) to allow the refrigerator
to mo_e out fiom the _x_tll
after installation.

Be sure that the kit you select alkm:s at least 8' (2.4 m) as
described abox_.
NOTE: The only GE approved plastic tubing is that supplied
in GE SmartConnect
TM
Refrigerator
Tubing kits. Do not use any
other plastic water supply line because the line is under pressure
at all times. Certain types of plastic will crack or rupture with age
and cause water damage to your home.
WHAT YOU WiLL NEED (CONT.)
"A GE water supply kit (containing
robing, shutoff
valve and fittings listed below) is available at extra
cost fiom your dealer or fiom Parts and Accessories,
1.800.661.1616.
- A cold water supply. The water pressure
must be
between
20 and 120 p.s.i. (1.4-8.1 bar).
" Power
drill.
" 1/2" or adjustable
wrench.
- Straight
and Phillips
blade
screwdriver.
- Two 1/4" outer diameter
compression
nuts and
2 ferrules
(sleeves)--to
connect
the copper
robing
to the shutoff: valve and the refiigerator
water valve.
OR
- If you are using a GE SmartConnect"*
Refiigerator
Tubing kit, the necessa_ T fittings are preassembled
to the tubing.
" If your existing copper
water line has a flared fitting
at the end, you will need an adapter
(available at
plumbing
supply stores) to connect
the water line to
the refiigerator
OR you can cut off: the flared fitOng
with a tube cutter and then use a compression
fitOng.
Do not cut formed
end fiom GE SmartConnecg
'_
Refiigerator
tubing.
- Shutoff valve to connect
to the cold water line.
The shutoff valve should have a water inlet with a
minimum
inside diameter
of 5/32" at the point of
connection
to the COLD WATER LINE. Saddle-type
shutoff valves are included
in many water supply kits.
Before purchasing,
make sure a saddle-type
valve
complies with your local plumbing
codes.
