Director Management

Management access to the director is provided through an Ethernet LAN connection to the
director's control processor (CTP) card (out-of-band management). A LAN connection is
required for each director. The following out-of-band management access methods are
provided:
Management through the Enterprise Fabric Connectivity Manager (HP EFC Manager),
and Product Manager applications. These Java-based graphical user interfaces (GUIs)
reside on the HP EFC Server under control of the Microsoft
system, and can also be installed on remote user workstations. Refer to Chapter 3,
Director Software Description for information about the interfaces.
Operators at remote workstations can connect to the HP EFC Server through the local
HP EFC Manager and Product Manager applications to manage and monitor directors
controlled by the HP EFC Server. A maximum of nine concurrent users (including a
local user) can log in to the HP EFC Manager application. Refer to Remote User
Workstations on page 62 for information.
Management using simple network management protocol (SNMP). An SNMP agent is
implemented through the Product Manager application that allows administrators on
SNMP management workstations to access director management information using any
standard network management tool. Administrators can assign internet protocol (IP)
addresses and corresponding community names for up to six SNMP workstations
functioning as SNMP trap message recipients. Refer to SNMP Management
Workstations on page 65 for information.
With firmware Version 1.1.2 (or later) installed, management through the Internet using
the embedded Web server interface installed on the director. This interface supports
configuration, statistics monitoring, and basic operation of the director, but does not
offer all the capabilities of the Product Manager application. Administrators launch the
Web server interface from a remote PC by entering the director's IP address as the
Internet uniform resource locator (URL), then entering a user name and password at a
login screen. The PC browser then becomes a management console.
