Task 6: Plan Network Addresses

Depending on the configuration of the LAN on which directors and the HP EFC Server are
installed, plan network addressing as follows:
If installing directors and the HP EFC Server on a dedicated (private) LAN segment,
there is no requirement to change any default network addresses. However, if multiple
equipment racks are connected, ensure all directors and servers have unique IP
addresses. If new IP addresses are required, consult with the customer's network
administrator.
If installing directors and the HP EFC Server on a public LAN containing other devices,
default network addresses may require change to avoid address conflicts with existing
devices.
For the director, the IP address, gateway address, and subnet mask are changed
through a remote terminal connected to the director's maintenance port.
For the HP EFC Server, these addresses are changed through the TCP/IP Properties
dialog box in Windows 2000. In addition, assign and record a unique domain name
system (DNS) name for the HP EFC Server and each director.
Gateway addresses may need to be configured for directors and the HP EFC Server if
these devices connect to the LAN through a router or other gateway device.
The Ethernet connections for directors and the HP EFC Server have the following default
network addresses:
Director
– Media access control (MAC) address is unique for each director.
– Factory preset and default IP address is 10.1.1.10. If the Reset Configuration option
is selected from the Product Manager application, the director resets to this address.
– Subnet mask is 255.0.0.0.
– Gateway address is 0.0.0.0.
