Task 4: Plan Console Management Support

Plan to implement one or more of the following to provide console management and
support for the director:
•

HP EFC Server

The rack-mounted HP EFC Server is used for director installation, initial software
configuration, changing the configuration, and monitoring director operation.
– When the Enterprise Fabric Connectivity Manager (HP EFC Manager), Product
Manager, and Fabric Manager applications are installed on the HP EFC Server, the
server is used as a local user workstation.
– The HP EFC Server can support up to 48 directors or other supported products.
– Managed directors can be powered off and on without the HP EFC Server.
– An HP EFC Server failure does not cause an operating director to fail.
– The HP EFC Server is fully operational, even if there is no user logged in to the
Windows 2000 operating system. The HP EFC server allows remote users to log in,
and continues to monitor directors in the background.

Remote user workstations
If remote access to the HP EFC Server is required, plan to install user workstations
with the HP EFC Manager, Product Manager, and Fabric Manager applications
configured. Administrators can use these remote workstations to configure and
monitor directors. Up to nine HP EFC Manager sessions can be simultaneously active
(one local from the HP EFC Server and eight remote). Sessions from remote user
workstations are disabled if the HP EFC Server is powered off.

Web server interface
If Internet access to the director's embedded Web server interface is required, plan for
an Ethernet cable connection between the director and an Internet-accessible LAN.
Internet access to the Web server interface is not provided by the HP EFC Server.
