Scene Mode (Shooting Suited to Scenes)
SCENE--) _ scene auto Selector
When you frame a picture, the camera automatically selects the optimum scene for simpler
shooting.
I_t/ll_i: Portrait, PlY: Landscape, I'_/r_t]: Night portrait, I'_: Night landscape, I[_Ji:
Close-up, _/l_'i]: Backlighting, D: Other scenes
• When the camera automatically selects a scene mode, the shooting mode icon changes
to that for the scene mode currently enabled.
• The camera automatically selects the focus area for autofocus in accordance with the
composition. The camera detects and focuses on faces (see "Using Face Detection"
(_)85) for more information).
• Depending upon shooting conditions, the camera may not select the desired scene
mode. Should this occur, switch to I_1 (auto) mode (_28) or select the optimum scene
mode for the subject manually.
• The digital zoom is not available.

Shooting Operation
• When the shooting mode icon is _ or I'_, the camera performs the optimal operation for
shooting a close up picture of one to two persons. When the icon is _ or I'_i, the camera
performs the optimal operation for shooting a picture of three or more persons or shooting a
composition with a large background area.
• If the camera switches to I'_/1"_ (Night portrait), the flash mode is fixed at red eye reduction and
the flash is used for capturing portraits (images are not captured continuously) just as when
Tripod is selected when using Night portrait (_47).
• If the camera switches to _ (Night landscape), the camera shoots images continuously and
combines and saves them as one image, just as when Hand-held is selected when using
[] (Night landscape) (_42).
• If the shooting mode icon is _, the camera performs the optimal operation for shooting non
human subjects. If the icon is I_'R, the camera performs the operation using face detection that is
optimal for shooting human subjects.
