RECEIVING DOCUMENTS
Your fax has two modes of reception: FAX and TEL. Wtth TEL reception, you must
pick up the handset when the fax rings to receive a document. With FM reception
you don't have to do anything; the fax automatically answers the call and receives
the incoming document.
+ FAX reception is most useful when you want to use your line as a dedicated fax
line (you will only be receiving faxes on it).
+ TEL reception is most useful when you will be receiving both voice calls and fax
messages on the same line. You can also answer calls and begin fax reception
from any extension phone connected to the same line.

In FM mode, your fax automatically answers all calls on 2 rings and receives the
incoming documents.
You can change the number of rings on which the fax answers incoming calls by
changing Option Setting 2 (see Chapter 6, "Optional Settings"). Any number from
"2$' t o "4" can be selected.
+ If you pick up the handset before your fax answers, you can talk to the other
party and/or receive a document as described below in "Using TEL mode". For
example, with the fax set to answer on 4 rings, you can receive both voice calls
and fax messages in FAX mode by answering before the fourth ring, but still
have the fax answer calls automatically at times when you are unable to respond
personally.
Note: If you are using distinctive ringing, your fax will answer incoming calls after
two rings regardless of the setting of Option Setting 2.
