machine returns to its initial stand-by mode and is ready for
use.
When the cartridge is about to run out of ink, the display
shows:
and the fax machine prints, on a sheet loaded automatically,
the indication that the ink is about to run out.

ETTING UP THE CORDLESS PHONE
The cordless phone provided with the fax machine may be
used not only to make calls but also to use the phone book
and the memos and incoming messages recorded on the fax
machine (see "Transmission and reception operations"
and "The telephone answering device"). The cordless
phone conforms to the DECT (Digital European Cordless Tech-
nology) and GAP (Generic Access Profile) standards.
The operating range of the phone is about 250 metres (in an
open field under optimum operating conditions). If you hear
interference while you are using the phone, move closer to-
wards the fax machine. Large metal objects or thick walls
may significantly reduce the range of the device.

O CHANGE THE DATE AND TIME ON THE CORDLESS PHONE
You can change the date and time shown on the dis-
play of the cordless phone at any time. Remember
however that when you change the date and time
on the cordless phone, the date and time shown
on the display of the fax machine are changed
automatically.

The cordless phone supplied in the package is already regis-
tered on the fax machine and is ready for use. To register
other cordless phones compatible with the DECT (Digital Eu-
ropean Cordless Technology) and GAP (Generic Access Pro-
file) standards, see "Using the specific cordless phone
functions ".

This procedure may only be carried out from the fax
machine.
As it is always useful to have the menu structure and its
functions close at hand, we recommend you print it out.

RANSMISSION
If you follow the procedures described below, you can imme-
diately use the fax machine to carry out simple trans-
mission operations. In any case, if these procedures are

of all the transmission modes and how to program the phone
book.
