Chapter 2: Installation

Installing an Optional Expansion or Stacking Module

58
This section describes how to install an optional expansion or stacking
module in the switch and applies to the AT-8516F/SC, AT-8524M, and
AT-8524POE models.
Note
The modules can be hot-swapped; you do not have to power off a
switch to install these options.
To install a module, perform the following procedure:
1. Remove the module from its shipping container and store the
packaging material in a safe location.
Note
You must use the original shipping material if you need to return the
module to Allied Telesis.
Warning
An expansion or stacking module can be damaged by static
electricity. Be sure to observe all standard electrostatic discharge
(ESD) precautions, such as wearing an antistatic wrist strap, to
avoid damaging the module.
Refer to the module's installation guide for a list of the items included
with the option. If any item is missing or damaged, contact your Allied
Telesis sales representative for assistance.
2. Locate the expansion slots on the left side of switch.
3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, loosen the captive screws on the
faceplate and remove it, as shown in Figure 14.
