The Sharp Laser Multifunction software consists of the Laser Multifunction Control
Panel and the Multifunction Desktop. The Multifunction Control panel allows you to
program auto dial numbers in the Laser Multifunction unit for e-mail and fax, and the
Multifunction Desktop serves as a centralized base for managing and manipulating
documents coming from or going to the Laser Multifunction unit.
• PC faxing
The Multifunction Desktop offers a range of PC faxing options, including sending
and receiving faxes, a fax log, and a handy fax phonebook.
• Printing
You can print both from the Laser Multifunction Desktop, and from other
applications. You can also print from other applications into the Multifunction
Desktop to create a centralized file registry.
• Scanning
The scanner component of the Multifunction Desktop gives you features you would
normally find in a dedicated scanner, and is TWAIN compatible.
• Linking
The Multifunction Desktop supports linking to other applications. You can, for
example, link to your e-mail software to send a Multifunction Desktop document as
an e-mail attachment.
Please note the following information about scanning, printing and faxing photographs
using the Sharp Laser Multifunction unit and the Laser Multifunction Desktop
Software.
1. Scanning and printing photos
To scan and then print a photograph, we recommend that you use Grayscale for the
Scan mode rather than B&W Photo.
If you wish to use B&W Photo mode, scanning a photo at 300 dpi and printing it at
300 dpi generally gives better results that scanning the photo at 600 dpi and printing
it at 300 dpi.
If a photograph is scanned at 600 dpi in B&W Photo mode, it may not be possible to
print the photograph at 600 dpi. In this case, close any other applications that may be
open, and then try printing at 300 dpi.
If printing is not successful and the printing process appears to have stopped, cancel
the job as follows:
1. Click the Cancel button in the print monitor window that appears during printing.
2. Make sure that the Laser Multifunction unit has returned to the normal standby
state.
3. Click the "X" in the upper right-hand corner of the print monitor to close it.
2. Faxing photographs
When faxing a photograph, we recommend that you fax the photo directly from the
Laser Multifunction unit using the panel keys. Scanning the photo into the
Multifunction Desktop software and then faxing it using the PC Fax feature will not
produce as good an image as faxing directly from the unit.
