Software Manager Reference
The Select Packages dialog box appears. Dependency packages appear in the list,
even if they are not part of this group. A red dot on the package icon indicates a
required package. For examples of how package relationships affect what appears in
this dialog box, see
How Package Relationships Affect Group Distribution
page 123.
Merge modules and SOE Snapshots do not appear in the list because they are
ignored during Group Distribution.
4.
Mark or clear check boxes to specify the packages to distribute. You can mark or
clear a subgroup as a whole but not the individual packages in the subgroup.
Clearing a check box removes that package from this particular distribution instance
only. It does not delete the package from the group. Example: Suppose this group
contains an .MSI and three patches. In this instance, you need to distribute the
patches only, so you clear the check box for the .MSI.
5.
To change a package command line, click a package, click its command line in the
Command Lines list, and then click Edit.
Changing a command line here changes it for this particular distribution instance
only. It does not change the command line in the package definition file or in the
group. You cannot change the command line for a package in a subgroup.
6.
Click Next on the Select Packages dialog box.
If any packages in the group require a package definition but do not have one, an
error dialog box appears and lists the packages. Click OK on the error dialog box,
cancel Package Distribution, and create package definitions for the packages that
are listed.
If all packages that require a package definition have one, the Output Location
dialog box appears.
7.
Specify the name and path of the deployment wrapper .EXE that will be created.
8.
To copy the deployment wrapper .EXE to an FTP server, mark Upload to FTP
Server and complete the FTP information:
FTP Server Address
The address of the FTP server to transfer the wrapper files to. Example:
ftp.server.com.
FTP Logon Name
A valid logon name for this FTP server. The logon name must have write access
to the directory to transfer files to.
FTP Logon Password
A valid password.
FTP Upload Directory
The directory on the FTP server to copy the package to. The first character must
be a forward slash (/). Example: /published/installations.
9.
Click Finish.
The wrapper file is created, along with corresponding .WSE and .XML files.
10. When the process is finished, click Done on the Creating Deployment Group dialog
box.
Now you can use a distribution system (example: Altiris Software Management Solution)
to distribute the deployment wrapper .EXE.
