Viewing Package Relationships

Required Association (must go with)
The dependent package must be installed with the dependency.
Optional Association (optionally goes with)
During Group Distribution, you have the option to include the dependent
package with the dependency. Example: An .MSI is a dependency of an .MST
and you only need to distribute the .MST to certain departments. When you
distribute the .MSI using Group Distribution, you have the option to include
the .MST.

When you finish defining dependencies and associations, review the description of
your selections in Relationship Description.
You can edit this description to reword it. If you edit the description, it will no longer
be updated when you select different options. To restore the default text, delete the
entire description and click OK. The next time you open the Package Relationship
Details dialog box, the default text reappears.

Click OK on the Package Relationship Details dialog box.
The Package Relationships dialog box reappears and the package dependency is
added to the Dependencies tab. The dependency is preceded by an icon that
represents the relationship between the dependency and the dependent package.
Subdependencies are displayed in a tree format.

Continue to add dependencies if needed.

To quickly edit a package's relationships, right-click the package on the
Dependencies tab. The right-click menu correspond to the options on the Package
Relationship Details dialog box.
10. To delete a package, select it and click Delete.
Note
You cannot delete package dependencies that were created when you imported a
transform or patch.
11. The order of the packages on the Dependencies tab represents the order in which
they must be installed. To rearrange the order, click Move Up or Move Down.
12. To see packages that are dependent on the current package, click the Dependent
Packages tab. This information is read-only.
13. When you finish adding dependencies and defining package relationships, click OK
on the Package Relationships dialog box.
With Enterprise Management Server, Security Setup determines whether you can view
package relationship properties.
To view package relationships
1.
(Enterprise Management Server only.) If multiple databases are open, select a
database in the Applications/Packages pane.
2.
In the Applications/Packages pane, expand a package tree.
3.
Click the Package Dependencies or Dependent Packages folder.
