Setting Up Roaming Users
When you exit Dragon NaturallySpeaking, switch users, close a user, or save a user,
the program saves changes to the local roaming user and synchronizes these changes
with the network (or master) roaming user. In a situation where you are always
connected to a network, this occurs at the time you perform one of these operations.
When you dictate using a portable computer not currently connected to a network,
synchronization occurs when you reattach the computer to the network containing
the network roaming user and open that user again.
Roaming User Scenarios
Some situations that the Roaming User feature makes possible:
Among a group of networked computers, a central storage device can contain all
the user files. You can load a user from the central location across the network
and dictate at any computer on which Dragon NaturallySpeaking is installed.
When you exit Dragon NaturallySpeaking and save the changes to your user
files, these changes are saved in the central location. The next time you run
Dragon NaturallySpeaking with that user, all the changes you saved are
available to you regardless of which computer on the network you use for
dictation.
You have a laptop, tablet, or other portable computer for which you have a
network connection but which you want to use disconnected from that network.
The Roaming User feature maintains consistency for all the user files once you
reconnect your portable device to the network.
For example, say you want take your laptop, which is networked at the office,
home for the evening. Before leaving the office you load the user you want from
a central location on the network to your laptop. Once home, you complete a
dictation session and save new corrections and acoustic data on the laptop.
When you return to the office, you reconnect the laptop to the network and the
Roaming User feature synchronizes the updated user files on the laptop with
those at the network's central location the next time you load that user.
