Configuring a VTP Client
When a switch is in VTP client mode, you cannot change the VLAN configuration on the switch. The
client switch receives VTP updates from a VTP server in the management domain and modifies its
configuration accordingly.
Follow the steps below to configure the switch as a VTP client.
enable
vlan database
vtp server
vtp domain domain-name
vtp password password-value
exit
Purpose
Enables privileged EXEC mode.
Enter your password if prompted.
Enters VLAN configuration mode.
Configures the switch as a VTP server.
Defines the VTP domain name.
Enter the VTP domain name. Domain names can be a
maximum of 32 characters.
(Optional) Sets a VTP domain password
Enter a password. Passwords can be from 8 to 64 characters.
Updates the VLAN database, propagates it throughout the
administrative domain, exits VLAN configuration mode, and
returns to privileged EXEC mode.
