Advanced Setup of Physical Devices

The Physical Devices page allows you to manage attached disk and RAID storage devices
similar to the Logical Volume Manger level and requires a detailed knowledge of UNIX system
administration and the Logical Volume Manager.
Caution: Use of the Advanced Setup Tools functions requires you to use Command View
SDM to create and manage LUNs. Incorrect use of the Advanced Setup tools can result in
data loss.
From the NAS web interface Storage tab, navigate to Advanced Setup > Local Storage and
select Physical Devices.
The main grid on this page will display all physical storage devices attached to the server, their
connection path, size, and associated Volume Group. Two checkboxes control the presentation
of this display for attached RAID devices.
Show RAID devices
When checked, RAID storage devices will be displayed in the grid. Normally, the RAID
o
units should be managed used the Quick Setup->RAID device setup page. Managing
RAID devices on this page requires Expert knowledge of system administration and is not
recommended.
Show RAID devices on secondary controllers
This controls whether the secondary controller paths of RAID devices are displayed. It
o
has no effect if Show RAID devices is not checked. For expert users only.
To manage a device, select it in the grid and then select an Action menu pick.
RAID devices should not normally be managed on this page. Instead, use the Quick Setup-
>RAID device setup page.
Consult the HP-UX documentation for Logical Volume Manager help. Briefly, unused disk devices
are normally added to a LVM Volume Group (new or existing) as a physical volume. Logical
Volumes are then created on the physical volume, and file systems then created on the Logical
Volumes. File systems may then be shared with external computer systems via NFS or CIFS.
