Quick Setup

RAID Device Setup

For RAID device setup with a new system, please review the instructions in the Getting Started -
Part 1 and Getting Started - Part2 sections of this manual.
In the NAS web interface Storage tab > Quick Setup, select RAID Device Setup.
The RAID Device Setup page manages any VA 7100 and/or VA 7400 attached storage. You can
initialize these devices and create Logical Volumes which can be shared with external systems
via NFS or CIFS.
Note:
RAID Device Setup is used only for initial setup of your system. Your HP NAS VA solution
will determine the storage capacity and configuration that can be setup through RAID Device
Setup per the following table

Initial Setup and Configuration

The following table tells you the limits of storage capacity and configuration for initial setup using
RAID Device Setup. Once you have completed the initial setup using this tool, you can setup
and configure any remaining storage via the Advanced Setup tools.

Volume Groups

The current storage configuration is listed in a table at the top of the page. Any managed devices
and allocated Volumes are displayed, along with their status and size. Existing Volumes may be
deleted using the table Delete button, and new Volumes may be added using the Add storage
on selected Device Action menu pick.
The NAS GUI treats the array(s) as one large physical disk, represented by the LUN created on
the device at initialization. This disk is then added to a Logical Volume Manager (LVM) Volume
Group (VG), named based on the unique ID of the storage device. Storage created by the user is
allocated from this VG, mounted on the server file system, and exported to external systems via
NFS or SMB.
In depth status and configuration data for the RAID storage device may be obtained from the
Command View SDM Web interface.
Caution: Use of the Advanced Setup Tools functions require you to use Command View SDM
to create and manage LUNs. Incorrect use of the Advanced Setup tools can result in data loss.

Action Menu Picks

A number of storage management functions can be performed from the menu that appears when
the Action button is selected.
Force Hardware Rescan (slow)
In rare cases the GUI may not recognize externally connected storage devices. If so, a
o
rescan will do an exhaustive search of the attached hardware and recreate device files
and a default configuration, if necessary. This may take several minutes, and is usually
only needed if adding a new device or if an existing device has been moved or replaced.
