    The properties of individual tags vary greatly in terms of size, thickness, flexibility and surface fin- ish, for example. A reliable statement as to whether a particular label can be transported and printed with the XTP 604 can only be made after a preliminary test. The core piece of the print head, the ther- mal edge, consists of a row of dot elements, which can be controlled and heated separately.
  • Page 23 XTP 604 User Manual Function of automatic ribbon economy In regular print mode without ribbon saving, ribbon is fed simultaneously with the labelling material. As a result, ribbon is also consumed over unprinted areas of the label. Ribbon saving stops the feeding of the ribbon if there are label areas of a certain size without imprinting.

    72 SETTING AND MONITORING Setting the tag separator The description shows the XTP 604 with basic loader, but applies equally to the XTP 604 with extend- ed loader. About this task Before printing a new label type, the separator must first be set to the label thickness. This ensures that only one label at a time is pulled out of the bottom of the stack.
