Quick Links

The PDX520 has been carefully designed to provide full and accurate
spoken voice capture. It portrays a natural, pleasingly warm sound that
lends itself to long-format content where intelligibility and auditory
comfort are paramount.
The PDX520 is part of the PDX family, AUDIX's line of premium dynamic
microphones for broadcast, podcasting and studio work.
The PDX520 features a cardioid polar pattern for improved isolation,
even in sub-optimal acoustic environments, and its default gain level
eliminates the need for preamp boosts or cloud lifters.
The microphone also features two, 2-position switches that enable users
to quickly modify sound by adjusting the low cut and presence boost,
minimizing the post-production work.
The low-cut filter has a cutoff frequency of 80Hz with a 6dB-octave slope
and the presence switch brings a gentle boost between 1 and 5 kHz to
sweeten the upper-midrange.
The unique design takes inspiration from the AUDIX PDX720, featuring
an internal vibration dampening system for the capsule, housed in a
solid metal body with integrated attachment arm for both microphone
stand and XLR connector.

USER TIPS
For a fuller bass heavy "radio" sound speak or
sing very close to the microphone – this gives
a warm bass boost as well as a more intimate
sound. For a more natural sound, try using the mic
about 3-6" away from your mouth. This should
provide a bit more "air" to the voice recording.
If you want the sound to cut through the mix
or stand out more engage the presence boost
switch on the rear of the mic. This gives a gentle
and musical boost in the upper-midrange.
If you find there is excessive low bass in your
sound, try engaging the low-cut filter. This only
rolls off the bass below 80 Hz and will allow
you to keep a nice rich sound while reducing
the rumble or excessive plosives.
OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
The PDX520 is a low impedance microphone and should be plugged
into the balanced XLR "mic level" input of your console, mixer or recording
device. Please note that your microphone does not require phantom
power and will not be affected in any way by phantom power should it
be running simultaneously while the microphone is in operation.
Avoid plugging or unplugging the microphone from the audio system
unless the channel is muted or the volume of the system turned down.
Failure to do so may result in a loud "popping" noise which could
seriously damage the speakers.
The PDX520 is manufactured to exacting specs with exceptionally
durable construction. However, the capsule is highly sensitive and should
be handled with care. Avoid extreme temperatures and be sure to store
your microphone in the pouch provided when not in use. Direct contact
with water or moisture of any kind can adversely affect the sound and
performance of your microphone.
