1.1 INTRODUCTION The Combitube Pump has been developed for ‘Low Flow, High Pressure’ applications. The Pitot tube design produces a stable, pulsation free flow. The ability to operate with low minimum flow makes the pump suitable for a wide variety of applications.
Single Stage, High Pressure Pump 1.2 DESIGN The Combitube pump is a single-stage, pitot-tube pump. The liquid enters the pump via the suction line, passes the mechanical seal (the mechanical seal is under suction pressure only) and enters the rotor where it is accelerated up to the rotor speed.
COMBITUBE Single Stage, High Pressure Pump 2. SAFETY This operation manual gives basic instructions that should be observed during installation, operation and maintenance of the pump. It is therefore imperative that this manual be read by the responsible personnel/operator prior to assembly and commissioning. It must always be kept available at the installation site.
If the staff does not have the necessary knowledge, they must be trained and instructed. Training may be performed by a Ruhrpumpen representative on behalf of the plant operator. Moreover, the plant operator is to make sure that the contents of the operating manual are fully understood by the personnel.

COMBITUBE Single Stage, High Pressure Pump The chosen location for installation must offer enough space for maintenance activities. 6.3.1 Concrete Foundation Preparation Choose a solid ground location for foundation; check that the bearing capacity of the soil is at least one third higher than both static and dynamic loads together.
COMBITUBE Single Stage, High Pressure Pump are recommended); they should be long enough to allow a minimum of two threads above the nuts. Provide pipe enclosures for the bolts, which are three or four diameters larger than the bolts. Protect area around the bolts from contact with the concrete.
Page 28
When baseplate is level, 'snug' the foundation bolt nuts, but do not tighten completely. • It is important to install Combitube pumps BEFORE installing the suction and delivery pipework. This is to ensure that the pipes are positioned to match the pump location and do not transmit load and induce strain in the pump manifold and casing.

In the event of seal failure, the leakage will exit from the seal drain. Piping may be connected to the seal drain and piped away from the unit but it should never be plugged. If pumping other than water please consult Ruhrpumpen. Leakage should be monitored for identification of seal failure. 6.8 SEAL FLUSH Unless the pump was equipped for seal flush, the seal flush inlet should remain plugged.
COMBITUBE Single Stage, High Pressure Pump 7. PIPING • These units are furnished for a specific service condition. Any change in the hydraulic system may affect the pump performance adversely. • The connection of the piping must be carried out with utmost care; otherwise, the pumping fluid can escape during operation, which can seriously endanger the operating personnel.
COMBITUBE Single Stage, High Pressure Pump imposed on the pump casing, prevent excessive nozzle loads, maintain pump/driver alignment, and avoid pipe-induced vibration. 7.1 PIPING THE SYSTEM Check whether the piping is loosely laid, so that no strain is placed on the pump.

11. MAINTENANCE, DISASSEMBLY & REASSEMBLY 11.1 GENERAL ADVICES To perform the maintenance of the Combitube pump, no special (custom made) tools are needed. However, for the procedures included in this section, the use of a verticalizing device is suggested to facilitate the assembly.
It is strongly recommended that Combitube pumps are repaired by Ruhrpumpen trained and qualified service engineers. Work must be done in clean conditions and using adequate tools will ensure safety and correct assembly.
COMBITUBE Single Stage, High Pressure Pump 11.2.1 Strainer The filter or strainer in the suction piping should be inspected and cleaned periodically. Failure to do so could cause a restriction in the inlet flow, resulting in pump cavitation or failure of the strainer.
COMBITUBE Single Stage, High Pressure Pump require re-balancing of the rotating assembly. Excessive material removal due to erosion, corrosion, or damage may also affect the balance of the pump. The rotor and rotor cover should be inspected for signs of cavitation damage. If damage is evident, the cause should be identified and eliminated. The inner shroud of the rotor cover contains a lip that forms part of a labyrinth seal.
Page 53
COMBITUBE Single Stage, High Pressure Pump • Make sure to identify the order of screws of the rotor casing because it has been previously dynamically balanced. Do not forget: the rotor is balanced and therefore each screw must be placed again in its position. The holes can be marked with metal number stamps and a hammer, or with a permanent maker, in the rotor cover.
Thoroughly clean all parts with kerosene or equivalent and dry all parts with compressed air or a clean, lint free cloth. Inspect all components for corrosion, erosion, pitting, and scoring. If required, replace with Ruhrpumpen O.E.M. genuine replacement parts. a. Visual check all individual parts for any damage. b. Check the bearings.
Page 55
It is recommended to have a verticalizing device (as the one shown in the image), to be able to change from horizontal to vertical position, as required during the assembly. The device includes a worm gear to facilitate movement. This device is sold separately, please contact Ruhrpumpen. Figure 11.2 Verticalizing device to assemble the Combitube pump.
