Precautions for remote control operation
Be sure of clear view in direction of travel.
Use a signalman to compensate for blind
spots. Be especially watchful for traffic and
overhead wires.
Be sure upperstructure swing brake func-
tions property before moving carrier under
remote control.
Be sure of clear path for carrier, boom and
counterweight before starting to move.
Never tow load using remote control drive.
REMEMBER THAT DIRECTIONS ARE BASED ON UPPERSTRUCTURE OPERATOR
Driving carrier from upperstructure cab
1. Be sure controls in carrier and upperstructure cabs
have been properly set for remote control operation
(see previous page).
2. Be sure engine is running at full throttle. Carrier
speed is controlled by gear selection and amount of
travel lever actuation.
3. Travel lever controls forward and reverse travel
and automatic digging brake. Pushing lever for-
ward releases digging brake and causes forward
travel. Pulling lever back releases digging brake
and causes reverse travel. When released, travel
lever returns to neutral position and applies auto-
matic digging brake.
Preparing upperstructure for conventional carrier operation
1. Retract boom partially (allowing clearance
between bucket and carrier cab). Position boom in
boom rest and secure using hold down toggle as
necessary.
2. Raise control knob to apply emergency brake.
Preparing carrier for conventional operation
1. Shift main transmission to neutral.
2. Apply parking brake.
FACING IN THE SAME DIRECTION AS THE CARRIER.
Always give audible signal before traveling.
Never permit bucket to drag while moving unit.
Always apply emergency brake before leav-
ing the upperstructure cab.
Rotation of steering wheel will occur dur-
ing remote operation. KEEP CLEAR!
4. Use EMERGENCY BRAKE to stop carrier if auto-
matic digging brake fails. Lift control knob to
apply digging brake. Notify maintenance person-
nel immediately if digging brake fails.
5. Steering lever controls direction of front wheels.
Move lever to left to turn left and move lever to
right to turn right.
NOTE: If brake system pressure falls below 40 psi,
emergency brake control in upperstructure and park-
ing brake control in carrier will raise to apply brakes.
Brakes cannot be released until pressure is restored
and parking and emergency brake control knobs are
depressed.
3. If upperstructure engine is to be turned off, allow to
cool by running at idle speed for a few minutes
before stopping.
4. Be sure steering lever is in neutral position.
3. Move DIGGING BRAKE toggle to OFF position.
4. Shift auxiliary transmission or transfer case to
