CHECKS AND SERVICES
BEFORE STARTING UPPER ENGINE
(To be performed at beginning of each work period.)
Complete all required maintenance before operating
WARNING
Use extreme caution when checking items
beyond your normal reach. Use an
approved safety ladder.
Before removing filler caps or fill plugs, wipe all dirt
and grease away from the ports. If dirt is allowed to

Inspect unit for obvious damage, vandalism and
needed maintenance. Check for signs of fuel, lubri-
cant, coolant and hydraulic leaks. Open access doors
and look for loose components and attaching hard-
ware. Check condition and cleanliness of lights and
reflectors.

Check the upper air reservoir drain cock and close if
found open. There are two reservoirs on the carrier.
Remote control units have a third reservoir on the
upperstructure.

seals, packings and bearings.
When adding fluids or changing filter elements, refer
to the lubrication section of this manual to determine
the proper type to be used.
If spark arrestors are used, be sure they are in place
and in good working order.

Check for adequate fuel supply and refill as neces-
sary using specified fuel. Tank should be kept filled to
minimize condensation.

Check hydraulic fluid level in reservoir with
boom level and extended half way. Refill reservoir
as necessary.
