EMERGENCY STOP (furnished with Detroit Diesel
engines only): In the event your Detroit Diesel engine
continues to run for more than 15 seconds after
attempting to stop the engine in the normal manner,
pull the "EMERGENCY ONLY" handle. Turn igni-
tion switch off.
WARNING
To avoid burns, wait until engine cools
before resetting emergency stop valve.
RUN POSITION
CHECKS AFTER STARTING ENGINE
Complete all required maintenance before operating.
WARNING
If it becomes necessary to check coolant
level in hot radiator, turn off engine and
relieve pressure before removing cap.
Relieve pressure by turning cap approxi-
mately 90 degrees counterclockwise and
waiting a few minutes till sound of escaping
pressure stops. Remove cap cautiously.
NOTE: The Deutz engine is air cooled.
1. Check operation of heater and defroster.
2. Observe oil pressure gage with engine running at
operating temperature.
EMERGENCY STOP VALVE (Detroit Diesel only)
Use "EMERGENCY ONLY" handle only in
emergency. Handle closes a valve pre-
venting flow of air to engine and may
cause oil to be sucked past seals and
into blower housing. Engine cannot be
started until valve is reset manually (see
illustration below).
Do not restart engine until cause of mal-
function is corrected.
3. Observe voltmeter indication of alternator output.
Proper output is approximately 13.5 Volts with
engine running at governed speed.
4. Observe water temperature gage indication of
engine coolant temperature. Proper operating tem-
perature is approximately 160 to 185°F. for Detroit
Diesel engines and 175 to 210°F. for Caterpillar
engines.
5. Observe air pressure gage indication of brake sys-
tem pressure (furnished only on units equipped for
remote control and self-propelled units.) Pressure
range for remote braking is 90 to 125 psi.
