CHECKING AND TOPPING UP
WARNING
Wait for the engine to cool down before
checking or topping up coolant level.
u Stop the engine and wait until it has cooled
down.
u Hold the vehicle upright, with both wheels
on the ground.
u Look through the slot (1) in the right fairing
and check that coolant level in the
expansion tank is between the "FULL" and
"LOW" marks.
FULL = maximum level
LOW = minimum level
If not so:
u Remove the side fairing, see page 109
(REMOVING THE SIDE FAIRINGS).
CAUTION
If dirt has accumulated on or around the
filler cap, wipe the cap and the area around
the cap with a clean cloth.

Prevent any foreign material from getting
into the expansion tank, this could lead to
serious engine damage.
u Unscrew the filler cap (2) (by giving it half
counterclockwise turn), without removing it.
Wait a few seconds in order to release any
u
residual pressure that may be present in
the circuit.
u Unscrew and remove the filler cap (2).
Coolant is poisonous! Do not swallow
coolant under any circumstance. Should
you get coolant in your mouth, rinse with
cool water and immediately seek medical
attention. Coolant is also very dangerous to
your skin and eyes. Should you
accidentally get coolant on your clothing or
skin, change clothes immediately. Wash
coolant from your skin with hot water and
soap. Should you get coolant in your eyes,
flush with plenty of cool water and
immediately seek medical attention.
CAUTION
WARNING
Should someone swallow coolant
accidentally, induce vomiting, rinse
mouth with water, and immediately seek
professional medical attention. Never
use your fingers or any other object to
check the coolant level.
CAUTION
If you use a container or funnel for
t o p p i n g u p , m a k e s u r e t h a t i t i s
perfectly clean. Any foreign matter
getting into the expansion tank may lead
to severe damage.
Top up with coolant, see page 141
u
(LUBRICANT CHART) until the coolant
level is almost up to the "FULL" notch. Do
not exceed this level, otherwise the coolant
will overflow while the engine is running.
u Replace the filler cap (2).
WARNING
Have any damage or discrepancy repaired
by your Local aprilia Dealer. Do not
attempt to repair the cooling system
yourself.
