STARTING
WARNING
Exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide,
which is extremely poisonous if inhaled.
Avoid starting the engine in closed or
badly-ventilated rooms. The non-
observance of this warning may cause
loss of consciousness or even lead to
death by asphyxia. Do not sit astride the
vehicle when starting it.

ELECTRIC STARTING

Place the vehicle on the center stand.
Move the engine stop switch (1) to the " "
(ON) position.
Make sure the dimmer switch (2) is in the
low beam "
" position.
Rotate the ignition key (3) to the " " (ON)
position.
Check that the "INJECTION CHECK"
warning light goes out (see page 30).
Hold the vehicle in place by applying at
least one brake.

If this operation is not carried out, the start
relay receives no current and therefore the
engine does not start.
NOTE
After a long period of inactivity,
carry out the operations described at p. 47
(STARTING AFTER A LONG PERIOD OF
INACTIVITY).
NOTE
To avoid discharging the battery,
and possibly damaging the starter, do not
keep the starter button depressed for more
than 5 or 10 seconds. If the engine does
not start in this time, wait for 10 seconds
and try again.
CAUTION
Do not depress the starter button "
when the engine is running. This will
damage the starter and other important
engine components.

Press the starter button "
the engine. Leave the throttle in the idle
position. Release the button as soon as
the engine catches.
CAUTION
When the starter button "
pressed, the 2 stroke oil reserve warning
light "
" (5) comes on. With the engine
in running condition, when the starter
button " " (4) is re-leased, the 2 stroke oil
reserve warning light " " (5) must go out;
if this does not occur, top up the 2 stroke
oil tank, see p. 36 (2 STROKE OIL TANK).
If the "INJECTION CHECK" warning light
lights up after starting, stop the
motorcycle and contact an Authorized
aprilia Dealer.
WARNING

If you run your engine without 2 stroke
oil, it will seize. This can cause an upset
with consequent risk of serious injury
or even death.
