REMOVING

THE EXHAUST SILENCER

Carefully read p. 35 (MAINTENANCE).
Position the vehicle on the centre stand.
Before performing the opera-
tions described below, let the
engine and the exhaust silencer
cool down until they have reached room
temperature, in order to avoid burns.
Have the appropriate special
tool  (to be requested to
aprilia Official Dealer):
√ clamp installation pliers (1).
Upon installation, replace the
hose clamp that has been re-
moved with a new one having
the same dimensions, to be requested
to an aprilia Official Dealer.
Do not attempt to reinstall the removed
hose clamp, since it is unusable.
Do not replace the removed hose clamp
with a screw clamp (2) or with other
types of clamp.
Remove the inspection cover, see p. 52
(REMOVING THE INSPECTION COV-
ER).
Release the hose clamp (3).
Disconnect the pipe (4).
Upon reassembly, position the
pipe (4) correctly.
DO NOT adjust the nuts (5) of the
flange (6), but follow the proce-
dure described below
Unscrew and remove the screws (7) and
(8).
Screw (7) and (8) driving torque:
12 Nm (1.2 kgm).
Unscrew and remove the two screws (9)
and (10) that fasten the exhaust silencer
to the engine.
Screw (9) and (10) driving torque:
25 Nm (2.5 kgm).
Remove the exhaust silencer.
Upon reassembly, replace the
gasket positioned between the
exhaust manifold and the silencer with
a new one.
