4-2. Cleaning

To make the most of the functions and performance of the unit and to extend the life
of the unit and tape, clean the parts described in the following as routine mainte-
nance work.

4-2-1. Cleaning Video Heads Using Cleaning Tape

When the video head is clogged, clean it in the following procedure.
Always use specified cleaning tape. Failure to do so may cause excessive wear or
damage to the video head.
Specified cleaning tape: BCT-HD12CL
For how to use the cleaning tape, refer to the Operation Manual.
Procedure
1. Insert the cleaning tape BCT-HD12CL into the cassette slot.
When the tape is inserted, it is played back for about five seconds, and is then
ejected automatically.

. If the cleaning tape is not ejected after playback for more than five seconds,
press the EJECT button immediately to eject it.
. Do not fast-forward or rewind the cleaning tape or leave it in the unit in the
STOP mode to avoid damage to the video head.
2. Check that the head clogging is cleared.
If the head clogging still remains after cleaning the heads with the cleaning tape,
clean them using a cleaning cloth. (Refer to Section 4-2-2.)

4-2-2. General Information for Cleaning Using Cleaning Cloth

Precautions
. Be sure to power off before cleaning.
. Each block in the mechanical deck consists of precision parts, and is adjusted
precisely. Be very careful not to damage the parts or apply excessive force to them
during cleaning.
. Keep away from greased portions during cleaning. If grease adheres to the clean-
ing cloth, replace it to a new one.
If a cleaning cloth with grease is used, the grease may adhere to any part in the
unit.
. Do not insert a cassette tape before cleaning fluid completely evaporates after
cleaning.
Preparation
1. Turn off the power.
2. Remove the outside lid assembly and the outside panel assembly.
