Hearth requirements:

The fireplace's non-combustible hearth must extend 16" in front and 8" beyond each side of the existing
fireplace opening and be raised 3" above any adjacent combustible floor. See Figure 3.
A non-combustible hearth that extends a minimum 24" / 610mm (in Canada) or 22" (in the U.S.) in front of
the fireplace opening can be flush to an adjacent combustible floor (See Figure 5).

Ember Protection:

Combustible flooring in front of the fireplace insert must be protected from hot embers by non-combustible
material extending 16" (USA) and 18" (CANADA) from the firing side (Door Glass) and 8" to the sides of the
unit (Figure 4).
