Brake system malfunction
A malfunction in the brake system must be
repaired as soon as possible .
If the
warning/i ndicator light -
(USA
models)/ .
(Canada models) in the instru-
ment cluster flashes, there is a brake system
malfunction . A dr iver message appears as
well to explain the malfunction in more de-
tail. The drive r warning goes out after about S
seconds , but it can be brought up at any time
by pressing the
!SE T!
button aga in.
Stop vehicle and check brake fluid level
• Stop the vehicle.
• Check the bra ke fluid level ~
page 241 .
• See k profess iona l assistan ce if ne cessa ry.

• Drive carefu lly to the nearest aut horized Au-
di dealer or other qualified wo rkshop and
have the mal funct ion corrected ¢

Parking brake system fault! See owner's
manual
• If t his symbol appears when the vehi cle is
stationa ry or aft er the ign ition is tu rned on ,
check to see if the parking bra ke can be re-
leased. Drive to an authorized Audi dealer or
othe r qualified workshop as soon as possi -
ble and have the malfunct ion corrected. If
the parking brake cannot be opened, then
take it to a n expert at an authorized Audi
dealer .
• If the symbol appears while you are driving,
it is poss ible that the traction control or the
eme rgency brake has ma lfunct ioned.
It
is
poss ible that the parking bra ke cannot be
applied . It is a lso poss ible that the pa rking
brake cannot be released after it has been
applied . Drive to an authorized Audi dealer
or other qualified workshop to have the ma l-
function corrected.
If the ABS system malfunctions, the ABS
warn ing/indicator
light illum inates together
with the brake system malfunction warning/
indicator light ¢ .&..

brake fluid .
- Driving with low brake f luid is a safety
hazard . Stop the car a nd get professiona l
assistance .

firs t un d er hard br ak ing. Rear wheel lock-
up can ca use loss of vehicle control and
an accident. Have yo ur vehicle repaired
immed iate ly by yo ur authorized Audi
dealer or a qua lified workshop. Drive
slowly and avo id sudden, hard brake ap-
plications.
- Canada models:
If the brake warning

and the ABS warning light

come on together, the rear wheels could
lock up first under hard braking . Rear
wheel lock-up can cause loss of vehicle
cont rol and an ac cident . Have yo ur vehi-
cle repaired immed iate ly by your au t hor-
ized Aud i dealer or a q ual ified wor kshop .
Drive s low ly and avoid sudden, hard
brake applications .

Engine cooling system malfunction
A malfunction in the engine cooling sys tem
must be repaired as soon as possible.
If the .
symbol flashes in the disp lay, eit her

is too high or
t he engine coolant
level
is too low . A d river
message appears as well to explain t he mal-
function in mo re detai l. The driver warning
goes out after about S seconds, but it can be
brought up at any t ime by pressing the

button again.
Switch off engine and check coolant level

• Stop t he vehicle .
• Turnoff the engine .
