1. Introduction and uses

Introduction

The Whale Sense unit may be used as a water safety device for
wet rooms and bathrooms where an automatic shut off is required.
Whale Sense is also an optional accessory for the Whale Instant Match range
used for pumped shower drainage where gravity drainage is not an option.
Solenoids, passive infrared sensor (PIR) and retractive switch not included.
Please see page 6 for specification recommendations and stockists.

Solenoid operation with a Retractive Switch or PIR

See Section 3 for detailed instructions
• In certain situations, it is desirable to shut off the water supply to the shower,
either to prevent flooding or to save on water usage.
- Shared bathrooms where automatic water shut off is desired due to
users with dementia or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
- Prolonged periods of non-use, building infra structure protection etc.
• By using a Passive Infrared Sensor (PIR) or retractive switch in the bathroom the water
supply can be opened to the shower using solenoids for a fixed period of time.
• When the retractive switch is used the solenoids are held open for 30 minutes.
• When using a PIR the solenoids are held open for the time period set on the PIR.
Using with Whale Instant Match (mixer shower)
See Section 4 for detailed instructions
• A wireless Bluetooth connection can be used to allow the SDS236T (755.699) Whale Instant Match
transformer to communicate with the Whale Sense, removing the need for a hard-wired connection
between the flow sensor / flow switch and the Instant Match transformer.
• Solenoids may be connected to the Whale Sense to enable the automatic anti-flood feature.
This can be of benefit for certain situations i.e. users with dementia and multi-use bathrooms.
