6. Fault Finding

Solenoid Failure

Solenoid failure* (Operation with Retractive Switch or PIR):
Where either the Cold or Hot water solenoid fails to open, the system closes the other solenoid
to prevent either scalding or cold-water shock. The LED on the Whale Sense will flash orange.
This indicates a failed solenoid.
After the PIR duration period is over and the PIR is activated again, water will not flow or there may
be a short pulse of water. This indicates solenoid failure. Call an engineer to investigate and replace
the failed solenoid. When replacing the solenoid, power to the Whale Sense must be turned off.
Solenoid failure* (Operation with Whale Instant Match):
Where either the Cold or Hot water solenoid fails to open, the system closes the other solenoid to
prevent either scalding or cold-water shock. This fault will be indicated by an intermittent alarm on
the Instant Match together with the LED flashing orange. On the Whale Sense the LED will also
flash orange.
- To clear the alarm the user can press the retractive switch. This stops the alarm and the LED
will revert to flashing green on both the Instant Match and Whale Sense.
- If the user attempts to open the solenoids by pressing the retractive switch again the alarm
will sound as before.
- Call an engineer to investigate and replace the failed solenoid. If in doubt call the Whale
customer help desk.
- When replacing the solenoid, power to the Whale Sense must be turned off.
* Water automatically shuts off when not in use. In the event of the hot or cold solenoid
failing, Whale Sense will automatically shut off the water supply. To meet relevant safety
requirements, Whale Sense must be used with a TMV2 or TMV3 mixer.
