Using with Whale Instant Match (mixer shower) See Section 4 for detailed instructions • A wireless Bluetooth connection can be used to allow the SDS236T (755.699) Whale Instant Match transformer to communicate with the Whale Sense, removing the need for a hard-wired connection between the flow sensor / flow switch and the Instant Match transformer.
PIR. • If one solenoid fails to open, the Whale Sense closes the other solenoid and shuts of the water supply to the shower to prevent either scalding or cold-water shock to the user*.
• If any component or cord is damaged, it must be replaced by a qualified individual to avoid a hazard. • The Whale Sense may be used on the bathroom lighting circuit. When a PIR is used to power the Whale Sense, this may be powered from the bathroom lighting circuit.
2. Specification Recommendations Solenoid specification The following solenoid is recommended for use with Whale Sense. Please note, these products are not supplied with SDA074T. Brand: RPE srl Model: 1175BC (12vDC 5.4 Watts 450mA) Stockist: Solenoid Valve World (www.solenoid-valve.world) Compliant to WRAS and features 15mm push fit connections.
Passive Infrared Sensor (PIR) Operation with PIR The Whale Sense unit may be used as a water safety device for wetrooms and bathrooms where an automatic shut off is required. A Passive Infrared Sensor (PIR) may be used to detect movement in the shower area, which opens the Solenoids for a pre-set time (adjusted on PIR).

3. The light sensitivity level of the PIR needs to be set at a low level to detect in all light conditions. 4. The PIR (not the Whale Sense) controls the duration that the solenoids are opened once movement is detected. Set the duration of the PIR to several minutes. Any movement of the user will keep reseting the timer to the start.
Retrative Switch Operation with Retractive Switch The Whale Sense unit may be used as a water safety device for wet rooms and bathrooms where an automatic shut off is required. A push button switch may be used to activate Whale Sense and opens the solenoids for a 30 minute pre-set time.

1. The Whale Sense unit and solenoids should be installed in an accessible location. Fig 3. shows the Whale Sense in the area above the bathroom i.e. loft space. 2. To activate the solenoids the user presses and releases the retractive switch. The solenoids are then activated and held open for a pre-set time of 30 minutes.
Fig 5. To overcome situations where hard wiring the transformer to the flow sensors / flow switches is not possible, Whale Sense may be used to transmit the flow signal via Bluetooth. To transmit the flow information for the mixer shower either Flow Sensors or Flow Switches may be used.

A. When first powered on, the Whale Sense and Instant Match transformer will flash red indicating it is unpaired. B. To place Whale Sense in pairing mode, press and HOLD the blue test button and wait for the LED to flash red/green, indicating pairing mode.

Use with retractive Switch In situations where the Whale Sense is used with the Whale Instant Match without a PIR the following option is available when using a retractive switch. The retractive switch may be connected either to the Instant Match or the Whale Sense as shown below.
A. When first powered on, the Whale Sense will flash red indicating it is unpaired. B. To place Whale Sense in pairing mode, press and HOLD the blue test button and wait for the LED to flash red/green, indicating pairing mode. NOTE: You have 120 seconds to pair the Whale Sense to the transformer.
Where either the Cold or Hot water solenoid fails to open, the system closes the other solenoid to prevent either scalding or cold-water shock. This fault will be indicated by an intermittent alarm on the Instant Match together with the LED flashing orange. On the Whale Sense the LED will also flash orange.
